Hello Everyone
I love this Ɵme of year in school. Its incredibly busy but in a very nice way, with children
singing Christmas songs in preparaƟon for the Carol Concert, the infants preparing for their
Christmas plays and everyone planning this years PTA Christmas Fayre, which promises to be
bigger and beƩer than ever!
At the Christmas Fayre, as part of our Enterprise EducaƟon, our junior classes are going to
be selling things they have designed, made and marketed, and we also have a few individual
entrepreneurs who are running stalls to make money for their class enterprise pots (used for
class treats and further enterprise ventures) and to donate to chosen chariƟes. There is so
much learning, especially in literacy and maths happening during these ventures - from
cosƟng materials and calculaƟng profits, to tesƟng prototypes and carrying out market
research - and the development of skills such as teamwork, leadership, planning and
organising, using iniƟaƟve, problem solving, risk taking, financial literacy and creaƟvity. And
the children love it!
Purple Mash!
Purple Mash!Purple Mash!
Purple Mash!
Yesterday, staff had training on using a new and exciting ICT and Computing
programme called Purple Mash, which we have purchased to enhance learning in all
curriculum areas across the whole school.
We were all much enthused by this excellent resource, so we know the children will be
excited too - in fact, Mr Hall was so enthused, he had all the netbooks for Year 4 set up
ready this morning before 8.30am!
What last night’s training did highlight though, once again, is that we desperately need
to improve our computer provision. Unfortunately, we have no money this year to
spend on computers BUT
BUT BUT
BUT we are very excited that the PTA are planning on using funds
raised this year to go towards the cost of a class set of iPads. Both the PTA and the
school will look towards obtaining match funding and also explore other funding
avenues to help this dream to become a reality. For this reason, we really do need
everyone to fully support all PTA events this year. Thank you.
By the way, if you hear that other schools already have iPads and all singing and
dancing ICT resources, it’s probably because a huge chunk of school budgets are now
related to deprivation and Pupil Premium, and since our school is in a relatively affluent
area, our budget share is relatively miniscule!
PTA News
Christmas Cards - not too late to get them!
If you missed the last date for Christmas Card orders this week, there's still time to order cards,
wrapping paper, mugs, coasters, gift tags and more directly from 'My School Printing'
Use the unique website address on the back of your child's card to access their design and
order form. All prices remain the same except for the postage charge as ordering in this way
means your goods will be delivered directly to your home address.
Don't forget to book Father Christmas and picnic bags
Please remember to book your slot for a visit to the grotto at the School Fayre, using the form sent out
with this newsletter. These need to be returned, with payment, to the school office at the beginning of
next week.
Can you spare a sheet?
Santa's grotto is currently in the design stage, but we need a white backdrop for our snowy
scene - please drop any white sheets you don't need into the school office by
Monday 8th December.
Christmas Fayre - Can you give an hour?
We have a fantastic Christmas Fayre planned, and now we need volunteers to help us on the
day. Our request is for parents/carers/friends to offer an hour (or even 30 minutes) to help make
it a great success.
Please speak to Emma Parkinson, drop her a text on 07941 233 101 or
email hayfieldschoolpta@gmail.com and tell us how much time and when (between 3pm and
7pm) you can help out.
If you really cannot offer your time on the day, please can you make or buy (we won't tell
anyone!) a cake for the refreshments service. Cakes should be sent into school with children on
the morning of 12th December.
Without you, the show cannot go on, so please help make this a great event!
